Our Process: Illuminating the Vision

At SPK Valo, we believe that lighting design goes beyond mere illumination—it is about creating experiences that transform spaces, evoke emotions, and tell compelling architectural stories. Our systematic, six-step process ensures that every project balances unyielding creativity with technical precision, resulting in environments where light acts as a living, breathing entity.

1. Client Brief

Every great design begins with a dialogue. In this foundational phase, we sit down with clients, architects, and stakeholders to understand the core vision and purpose of the space. We explore the architectural narrative, the intended emotional response of the end-users, and the practical requirements of the project. By aligning our “Think Global, Act Local” philosophy with your specific goals, we establish a unified direction that sets the tone for the entire creative journey.

2. Analysis

Understanding the canvas is critical. We conduct a deep dive into the site’s architectural character, spatial dynamics, and cultural context. This involves studying natural light patterns, material interactions, and the intricate textures of the space. We don’t just look at where artificial light is needed; we analyze how shadows, reflections, and contrasts can be harnessed to enhance the environment. This meticulous analysis ensures our design will be both globally informed and locally resonant.

3. Concept

This is where lighting transitions into architectural storytelling. Drawing from our analysis and the initial brief, we develop a tailored conceptual framework. We design a visual symphony using layered illumination—mapping out how ambient, task, and accent lighting will interact to create depth, mystery, and drama. Through sketches, mood boards, and conceptual presentations, we reveal how strategic lighting will elevate the aesthetics and establish the desired mood, long before a single fixture is installed.

4. Design Development

Once the concept is approved, we translate our artistic vision into technical reality. We move from abstract ideas to concrete solutions, performing detailed lux calculations, plotting control systems, and selecting the exact luminaires required to achieve the intended effect. In this phase, we meticulously balance artistry with responsibility, ensuring that our lighting schemes are not only visually stunning but also highly energy-efficient, sustainable, and seamlessly integrated into the architecture.

5. Tender Document

Transparency and precision are vital for flawless execution. We compile comprehensive tender packages that include detailed technical specifications, luminaire schedules, control philosophies, and a precise Bill of Quantities (BOQ). These highly detailed documents serve as a clear, unambiguous guide for contractors and vendors, ensuring that the project can be accurately priced, procured, and managed without compromising the original design integrity.

6. GFC (Good for Construction)

In the final stage before realization, we deliver the Good for Construction (GFC) drawings. These are the definitive, highly detailed blueprints required for on-site execution. The GFC package includes precise fixture placement coordinates, intricate wiring and control layouts, and customized mounting details for bespoke installations. By providing contractors with flawless technical documentation, we guarantee that the final installation perfectly mirrors our shared vision—bringing the space to life exactly as intended.
